Flexible, networked payroll solution enables leading accountancy practice to provide a wide range of payroll services to clients
Armstrong Watson, a leading independent firm of chartered accountants with 15 offices across northern England and southern Scotland, has rolled out Payrite®® from Rutherford Webb, to all its payroll staff. Armstrong Watson uses Payrite® to administer over 1300 payrolls on behalf of clients, including weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, six monthly and annual payrolls. The company provides a range of services to clients from bureau and managed payroll services to business consultancy, financial planning and wealth management strategies, accountancy and audit, corporate recovery and taxation. All Armstrong Watson offices have now standardised by using Payrite®, which was selected for its easy-to-use windows-based interface, adherence to legislation and ability to handle large volumes of different payrolls.
Payrite® is installed on Armstrong Watson’s main server with offices linked via Citrix. A PC version is used at the offices, with over forty users able to log in through the network, providing secure, centrally backed-up, management of client data.
Payroll Staff can view all the payrolls on the system, subject to security settings. Non-payroll staff, such as Accountancy Managers, also have read-only access to P60 information for tax self-assessments, and managers responsible for corporate tax compliance on company benefits, including customer car fleets, are able to view P11D information.
As part of the additional services offered by the company, bonus schemes and pension calculations often need to be calculated, which requires the exporting of data into spreadsheets. The results are then imported back into Payrite®. Armstrong Watson also carries out year-end P35 e-filing for all payroll clients using Payrite®.

On average we produce around 22,000 payslips a month on behalf of clients. Without Payrite® we couldn’t even begin to administer such a large number of different payrolls.”
